The Clinician Educator Milestones (CEMs) were developed in a joint effort between the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM). They were designed as a tool to support "the development and improvement of teaching and learning skills across the continuum of medical education."
In an effort to aid clinician educators in utilizing the CEMs as a self-reflection tool, we have created an electronic form that will allow you to self-assess on each of the subcompetencies.
Please use the form embedded below to complete your own CEM self-assessment. Completion of the self-assessment will take approximately 20-30 minutes. A summary of your responses will be generated and sent to your email after completing the self-assessment. Please allow up to 2-hours to receive the email summary. Be sure to check your Spam or Junk folder if you don't receive it within this time frame.
The CEMs use the following scale for each milestone. Please see example below with guidance for selecting boxes in the middle or between levels. If you don't feel like a specific milestone applies to your current role, don't choose a level. In the Clinician Educator Milestone PDF, you will not that there is a “not yet level 1” option listed. Due to form limitations, this option is not available in this self-assessment tool. However, you are free to skip any items in the tool if you don’t want to or aren’t able to rate yourself on the 1-5 scale.
Level 1 represents a novice
Level 2 represents the learner who demonstrates the attributes of an advanced beginner
Level 3 represents the competent learner
Level 4 represents the proficient learner
Level 5 represents an expert
